Researcher Advises Against Importing Electric Car Parts

China should attempt to develop its electric car industry independently and avoid buying component parts from overseas, Chen Qingtai, a researcher with the State Council's development research center, said on Thursday.
Chen said that China should abandon the practice of assembling circuits and other high-value parts produced in other countries before exporting finished goods.
He noted that it was important to develop competition within the industry despite plans announced on Oct. 14 that China's 10 leading automakers will cooperate on electric car research and development.
