Latin America's Economic Climate Index (ECI) hit its highest level in Jan. since July 2007, according to a poll conducted by the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), Xinhua News Agency reported on Feb.23.

FGV said in its study with the Institute for Economic Research at the University of Munich (IFO) that the economy of Latin American had gradually recovered from the world's crisis with a faster pace than average.

The ICE is formed by the Present Situation Index (ISA) and the Expectations Index (IE). In Jan., the ISA stood low in 4.0 points that had not returned to pre-crisis levels, but the IE increased to 7.1 points, far more exceeding 2.3 points in Jan.2009.

Due to the financial crisis, Latin America's ECI dropped to 2.9 points in Jan.2009, the lowest level in history. Thereafter, ECI began to rise from 3.6 points in April 2009, to 5.2 points in Oct. An ECI below 5 points means pessimistic in economic prospect and vice versa.

In Latin America, the ECI in Brazil was the highest, placing 7.8 points, followed by Chile with 7.4 points and Peru with 7.3 points.
