China Three Gorges Turns to Jinsha River

China Three Gorges Project Corporation is shifting its core business into the hydroelectric development of Jinsha River

Reporter learned from the working conference 2010 of China Three Gorges Project Corporation that with approaching to an end of the Three Gorges Project, the company, for which was established 17 years ago, is shifting its core business into the hydroelectric development of Jinsha River, Xinhua News reported on Feb.28.

In 2002, China Three Gorges Corporation was authorized to develop 4 power plants in the lower reach of Jinsha River, with a total investment of 400 billion yuan and a 40 million kw generating capacity, doubled that of the Three Gorges project.

As introduced, two of the four plants started respectively in 2005 and 2006, and have entered into key stages. The other two are estimated to begin construction during the Eleventh Five Year Plan.
