107 Chinese Make the Forbes Rich List

Mexico Telecoms tycoon Carlos Slim Helu saw off Microsoft boss Bill Gates and investor Warren Buffett to claim the top spot of 2010 Forbes rich list; 107 Chinese make the list.

According to the annual rich list by Forbes released on Mar. 10 in New York- Bill Gated was knocked off the top spot and 64 rich men from mainland China have made it on the list, only second to Americans in total numbers.

It is the 24th time for Forbes to publish its list of the world's richest people. Telecoms tycoon Carlos Slim Helu tops the list up from last year's third place - with estimated worth of 53.5 billion U.S. dollars, just edging out Microsoft founder Bill Gates by a half a billion. Investor Warren Buffet claimed the third place, with an estimated 47 billion U.S. dollars.

The American finance magazine has counted 1.011 billionaires, up from 793 last year, though still shy of the pre-crisis 1,125 listed in 2008. The U.S. has the most with 403.

Numbers of billionaires in mainland China listed increased to 64 including 27 fresh billionaires, up from 28 last year, surpassing Russia's 62.

Zhong Qinghou, founder of the Hangzhou Wahaha Group is the wealthiest man in mainland China, with an estimated 7 billion U.S. dollars, ranking 103th. The next is Liu Yonghang of Hope Group with an estimated 5 biilion. President Zhang Jindong of the Sunning Group has a net worth of 4.5 billion ranking 176th, followed by founder of BYD Company Wang Chuanfu with an estimated 4.4 billion U.S. dollars.

25 from China Hong Kong make the list. Li Jiacheng tops the Chinese list with an estimated 21 billion U.S. dollars ranking 14th, and Li Zhaoji followed with a fortune of 18.5 billion ranking 22th.

18 wealthy people from Taiwan have made it onto Forbes' annual billionaires list. The tally of billionaires from the Mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong accounts for more than 10 percent of the overall list.
