China's CPI Rises 3.1 Pct in May, PPI Ups 7.1Pct

China's consumer price inflation in May rose to 3.1 percent year-on-year, exceeding the government's full-year target of 3 percent, government data showed on Friday.

For the first five months, the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 2.5 percent from the same period of previous year, driven by a 6.1 percent rise in food costs.

The producer price index (PPT), a major measurement of inflation of wholesale prices, grew 7.1 percent compared with the same period last year.
