Air France to Shed 4,100 Jobs by 2013

Air France plans to cut 4,100 jobs over the next three years, French media reported on Monday quoting a Union leader.

Air France is scheduled to shrink its workforce from 51,804 posts in the end of March to 47,694 by end-March 2013, Jose Rocamorra, of the General Confederation of Labour Union, told reporters after an internal meeting of the Air France.

The 4,100 positions, mostly from ground handling services, will be cut by way of voluntary departures, he said.

Stricken by the global financial crisis, Air France-KLM has reported a huge loss of 1.559 billion euros in 2009 fiscal year ending March 31, a record high since 2004 when the two air carries merged.
