Geely Gets Approval from EU to Buy Volvo Cars

European Union regulators approved on Tuesday the acquisition of Ford Motor's Volvo car unit by Chinese carmaker Geely Automobile Holdings and state-owned investment group Daqing, XInhua reported.

Air France to Shed 4,100 Jobs by 2013

Air France plans to cut 4,100 jobs over the next three years, French media reported on Monday quoting a Union leader.

Air France is scheduled to shrink its workforce from 51,804 posts in the end of March to 47,694 by end-March 2013, Jose Rocamorra, of the General Confederation of Labour Union, told reporters after an internal meeting of the Air France.

The 4,100 positions, mostly from ground handling services, will be cut by way of voluntary departures, he said.

China Auto Sales Topped 7.18M in First Half Year

China's automobile sales surged 30.45 percent year-on-year to 7.18 billion in the first half of the year, said the report released by the China Automotive Technology & Research Center on Monday.

Auto production totaled 8.47 billion units, up 44.37 percent compared with the same period of last year, said the report.

China has sold 1.13 billion units of cars in June, up 13.97 percent year-on-year, while down 5.25 percent from the previous month.

China's Daqing Field Half-Year Output Reaches 20M Tons

Daqing Filed, China's largest oil field has produced over 20 million tons of crude oil in the first half of this year, Xinhua reported on Friday.

Cumulative oil production in the first six months is 20.07 million tons, and the natural gas output is 1.66 billion cubic meters.

The annual oil output of this field, operated by PetroChina Co., Ltd, the country's top oil and gas producer, has been above 40 million tons since 2008 with more than 100 tons of crude oil discovered annually.

The U.S. government on Thursday said it had completed the sale of 4.3 billion dollars' worth of shares in Citigroup, and would continue to sell the remaining stake.

The U.S. Treasury had sold 1.5 billion Citigroup shares worth 6.2 billion dollars in April, the first move to recoup taxpayer dollars by winding up investments that were designed to aid once the world's biggest banking group at the depths of the crisis.

Sony Corp has announced to recall 55,362 VAIO laptops in China market to fix a temperature-control-related defect which resulted in the overheating of these laptops, said China's quality supervision administration on Wednesday.

The recall involves VPCF 11 and VPCCCW 2 that produced between December 2009 and February 2010.
