YAY! I finally logged into Nelnet today for the last time! My student loans are finally gone! In total I paid off $55,261.41! This sub has been such an encouragement! Now I can live my life 😂
I’m in grad school right now and I have about **$60,000 in student loans**. I was lucky enough to get a **$20,000 scholarship**, but I’m not sure what’s the smartest way to handle it.
My plan was to apply for **loan forgiveness (PSLF/IDR forgiveness)** after I graduate next year. Part of me thinks I should keep the scholarship money as a financial cushion in case I need it for living expenses, emergencies, or to avoid taking out more loans. On the other hand, I could use it to pay down my loan balance right now.
What do you all think?
* Is it better to save it for now, since I’m still in school?
* Or should I go ahead and use it to knock down part of my loans?
Would love to hear from people who’ve gone through something similar.
