So exactly one month ago my truck was stolen. I have full coverage. After 3 weeks of waiting to see if it would be recovered , they declared it a total loss. I sent in the title and key , a day later money hit my account. 2 days later police called and they found my truck. I went to the tow lot , couldn’t touch anything because cops are coming to fingerprint it. They knocked the rear glass out, couple little boo boo’s but nothing serious. Looks like kids just went for a joy ride, ran it out of fuel on an old waterline.

I want the truck back. I feel like they overplayed me for the truck, but I don’t care, I’ll give them all their money back, I want my truck.

I’ve called and left a message cause it was after 5. Anyone know my options or what might happen???

Truck stolen, insurance paid, truck just got found, now what?

    1. You don’t want that truck. There’s so much unknown now. It would be foolish. Whoever had that thing maybe have been beating the shit out of it, imagine you get it back, and next week the transmission or engine blows. I guarantee you’d be pissed you took it.

Insurance cut you a check ready for the truck. Title is under them now. Can try and get it at the auction.

    3. Since you were paid out, they own the track. They may be willing to sell it back to you, keep asking.

    4. Wait till they return or answer your call. You can then talk to them about returning the money in exchange for them returning the title to you. Doubt they will force you to go through with buying it back at auction since the auction fees would have to be paid in that case.

You think they want your old shitty truck ? Make them an offer . Do not give them all the money back

Insurance company now owns the truck. They paid you for it. It will be sold at Copart or IAA, likely with a decent reserve/starting price because it’s minimally damaged. Go buy it if you want.

    7. You don’t have full coverage as that doesn’t exist. If repairable. Your comprehensive deductible will apply. Once insurance pays you out. It’s not your car. You won’t be able to buy it at iaa or compart if you don’t have a business license

    8. Insurance company owns it. Chances are they have a contract with a scrap or salvage compnany to get whatever value they can out of it.

I’ve had a stolen truck returned. I had to tow it home as the battery and cats were gone.

Until you properly inspect this vehicle, your plan is not smart, not smart at all.

There’s little chance that the motor wasn’t red lined like a mofo.
It could be fine. You could test the oil for metal.

Are the rear tires burnt much from burn outs, they could have cooked the rear brake pads and disks, holding the brake pedal to lock up the front tires.

I band aided my truck and drove it a month before I put another nickel in it (they burned the clutch some, and jacked with wiring).

I even started it that whole month with the same screwdriver they left on the seat. (The pounded it into the steer column).

      Anyway, you’ve been warned.
      Better budget 0 – $6+K for repairs.
      Good luck !
