Federal Student Aid got back to me and told me that my student loans, serviced by MOHELA, DID NOT increase by 45,000 during the SAVE interest free forbearance. I sent them screenshots to show the balance at the beginning of the SAVE forbearance. – 217,000 (and change) and the balance by May 2025 – 262,000 (and change).
They replied: "Your balance was previously adjusted to reflect the amount your balance was when the loans transferred on April 25, 2024."
What does that mean? That my balance was 262,000 before I went on the SAVE forbearance. That is not true. Wow, am I stuck with this?
Also, why is the repayment clock no longer on the federal website – the one that said how many years you had clocked toward forgiveness?
I've reported this to the DOJ, consumer affairs. I feel…crazy.

Do you have your monthly statements for those dates? This should be really simple if you do.
The same thing happened to me back in April. They added 71k to my account overnight despite SAVE forbearance which they refuse to fix. It has been escalated many times and it took over 20 hours on the phone to make them even admit to them adding interest when they shouldn’t have been. I have printouts of before and after.
The social contract between you and the government has been broken, thinking they will follow rhe law is your actual problem
Are you able to access your account statements? Mine goes up to November 2024 so of course doesn’t show when Mohela added $20k sometime in March or April 2025
