My parents "don't understand American insurance" so I am very in the dark here. This (see bottom) is my coverage with state farm, I am okay with paying a bit more for peace of mind if necessary.
What I don't understand is:
– If I am in an accident and total someone's car (obviously I am not trying to do this), how much will I be paying, and how much does state farm pay?
– Same question but with the other driver injured
– If I am driving and hit a deer and my car needs 6000$ worth of work (this sadly happened last year), how much do I pay and how much does state farm pay?
I know this doesnt say anything about a guest driver, but how do I find out what happens if someone is driving my car and gets in an accident?
Thank you so so much! I am sorry if this is basic, I believe knowledge is power and I am just here to learn. 🙂
- Liability Bodily Injury 100,000/300,000
- Property Damage 250,000
- Medical Payments 50,000
- 1000 Ded Comprehensive
- 1000 Deductible Collision
- Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury 100,000/300,000
- Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury 100,000/300,000
- Death Indemnity (there is no number next to this and idk what it means)
Can someone explain my insurance?

For bodily injury, State Farm would pay up to $100,000 per person or a total of $300,000 per accident (for multiple people). Separately, they would pay up to $250,000 for property damage if you’re responsible. If the damages exceed your policy limits, you would owe the remainder.

That would trigger your comprehensive coverage, so you would pay your $1,000 deductible and SF would pay the rest.

If you gave that person permission to drive, they would be covered by the policy for your vehicle. You should be aware of an exception: if that person lives in your household and *should* have been named as a driver on the policy, State Farm has the right to return your premiums and deny coverage.
Overall this is good coverage. Personally I have higher limits on bodily injury liability and un-/underinsured motorist bodily injury, because those present the largest risks. If you can afford it, I would consider increasing your coverage in those sections.
I would also suggest shopping around to compare prices if you haven’t already. You can often save a lot of money with a small amount of work.

Death Indemnity is essentially life insurance if you or another covered person dies due to a covered car accident. It’s paid to spouse or other family members. In your example, there is no number, so there’s no payout.
Dude or dudette. Talk to your SF agent.
People here can give to insight but with state farm, you have an agent with whom tou can have a conversation with.
