My 2 yrs old lab needed emergency surgery and the total bill is a little over $6000. I don't make much money but when I saw that figure, I thank myself for getting pet insurance. After deductible and coverage I paid only 700$ from my savings. This lowered my savings since I hadn't started saving for long. If I didn't have insurance, idk how it would have gone. Some people think pet insurance isn't important but just one, yes only one accident and it pays for itself.
Pet insurance saved my little savings

Idk how it is these days but I remember a few years ago redditors loved to say that pet insurance is a scam. I went back and forth on it for a bit but inevitably bought it for a puppy I had adopted at 5 months old. Cost $30/month. Around a little over a year old I noticed she was walking funny and had xrays done, turns out she had a genetic issue already causing major hip dysplasia and she had to have a total hip replacement which cost around $9000 for the surgery alone and didnt including imaging or rehab costs.
We ended up paying like $600 total for all of the imaging, the surgery, and 4 months of rehab. Worth it for sure
