Suck it Donald. Not only are they stupid, highly likely they are illegal.
Now to strike down the firing of Cook, his pocket recission idiocy, and various other features of his economic “plan”.

“A federal appeals court ruled Friday that most of President Donald Trump’s global tariffs are illegal, striking a massive blow to the core of his aggressive trade policy.”
*And I dare predict* …
… this decision will be flipped immediately, faster than all the others in line, by SCOTUS

I won’t hold my breath given what the SC has ruled so far. Once it hits their desk precedent and reason tend to go out the window. Americans elected a King.

Finally. Now what? Is congress ganna step up? Does congress even understand that this is part of their job. Just letting Trump do everything isn’t going to work. From what I understand Trump isn’t doing well and Vance is ready to take over.

It doesn’t mean anything. The administration has already indicated that they have other laws they can use to justify the tariffs, which means they can reapply them and then the courts will take months to rule again. Also the Supreme Court won’t even issue a ruling on the use of this particular law until next spring at the earliest and will allow the tariffs to stay in effect until then. By the time these get rolled back…if they even do…the damage will have already been done. Economic catastrophe is coming and there is nothing to stop it.

> The appellate court paused its ruling from taking effect until Oct. 14, in order to give the Trump administration time to ask the Supreme Court to take up the case.
The slow grind of law while businesses get destroyed. I don’t think they would ask the government to refund the tariffs collected. Even if they did, this administration would bankrupt any small business trying to collect what they owe, by tying them up with court and lawyer fees.

To no one’s surprise. The president doesn’t get to unilaterally change tax policy without it being first introduced in the House of Representatives, passes there, and going up to the Senate. The Constitution says:
> The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States; . . .

If I’m a business that wants to manufacture in the US. How shall I know whether to invest when tariffs jump up and down? Now the legality of tariffs are questioned?
Wouldnt it be easier to keep supply chains how they are and just hope American consumers will eat a higher price (and I eat into my margins a bit?)
Cannot see manufacturers coming back to the US.

Let me save some time:SCOTUS grabs ankles. Writes 120 page discourse about ankle grabbing. Writes another 240 pages on how american society needs to reset itself and supply SCOTUS with better lubricants because it can foresee being trumps bitch for 8-10 more years

People don’t realize just how much the courts have averted economic disaster for this country. It’s insane that the American people voted for someone without even a glimmer of understanding for how the economy works, but then the fact that the courts have saved their asses time and time again. Makes me assume that the American populace simply doesn’t know how dangerous his trade war game is for the entire global economy and that they’ll vote for something like this again.

That fact that this wasn’t Unanimous, 4 judges sided with the unhinged things Trump is doing is insane, and they still gave him 2 months so that he can appeal this without having to change this crazy Tarrifs, watching the judiciary bend over backwards to placate this man is disappointing

It’s too late. Billions in tariffs have been paid and those costs are rippling thru the supply chain which we’ll all soon see reflected in higher prices. No backsies. In the unlikely event SCOTUS upholds that Trump’s tariffs are illegal and must be revoked, the price hikes won’t be. Corporate profits will explode and Wall Street will have an extended orgasm, but you and me are fucked.

As they should have. Their use and justification for IEEPA here was always bullshit as there is no reason to tariff the entire world because of fentanyl. The supreme court will invent some dumb reason to rule in favor of expanding the president’s power again I’m sure. Between this, temporary appointments, and the pocket recissions we are on a fast track to Congress being effectively useless.
He could pass all this through Congress and it would be perfectly legal then but he doesn’t have the votes needed to do it. Also going through Congress would remove his ability to change the amounts on a whim to try and extort or pressure other countries.

Exec orders are always unreliable and not something businesses can take to the bank.
The administration own both houses so why not put these tariffs through Congress to make them solid. It’s not like they aren’t going to sail through.
This seesaw uncertainty isn’t good for business, the administration or the common people. And definitely not for America or the world.
