Hello everyone,

I have $180k student loan and I was on IDR since June 2025 and not making any payment yet.

I recently got a job and just started 2 weeks ago for a nonprofit organization and It is qualified for PLSF. I will get my 2 weeks paycheck next Friday and want to start making payment.

From my understanding, I will first upload my paycheck to studenaid.gov to re certify income, then pick a plan which is IBR. and start making payment?

Can someone tell me if this sounds right?

    Thanks

How to start paying my student loan?

    1. You can use your most recently filed tax return to calculate your IBR payment. What was your assigned payment when you signed up 2 months ago? If you are happy with that then you do not have to recertify your income until you are required to (this must be done annually).

    2. Most folks certify their income using the AGI from their last tax return. This is usually the option in folks’ best interest since the tax return uses AGI not GI. Plus most borrowers have a lower income as students than full time working professionals.
