I’ve been filing my Florida sales tax wrong for my small business since 2023. The amounts I reported are tens of thousands lower than my actual sales, so all of my returns are incorrect and I’ve been paying less than I should have. I haven’t received any notice from the state saying I filed wrong or that I owe money, but I know the numbers are off because my bookkeeping wasn’t set up correctly.
I want to amend the returns, but I’m really worried because every single one is wrong. What should I do? Any advice would really help. I’m panicking!!! I don’t care about penalties or fees, I just want to pay what I owe. My biggest fear is that fixing this will raise red flags since the numbers are so far off and I would be in criminal trouble.
My Florida sales tax filings are tens of thousands off since the beginning. Please help!!!

Mistakes happen they usually just hit you with penalties. If it’s WAY off that you think it could look intentional, then it’s best to talk with a tax attorney before acting.
If you revise your information I can’t image you’d be in any criminal trouble especially since revising them is essentially telling on yourself. With that being said I’m not an attorney and that’s who I’d recommend you chat with.
