Hello everyone,

So in Aug 2024 I was involved in a Hit and run ( I was rear-ended and the other driver took off) I filled a police report at that time and called my insurance telling them what happened in that moment. I went home and inspected the damage and it was trivial, one of the bumper clips was out place and I was able to push it back it in and there was zero signs of any damage and didn't follow up with the insurance to continue with the claim.

Now, it's time to renew my insurance and I was shopping around and was told I a fileed claim listed in Aug 2024 "for collision $0, at fault." I explained what happened to the insurance rep and she said, although it was a hit and run, it's still listed as "at fault" she told me the insurance gets it's claim data from LexisNexis.

My question is, how do I rectify this? Do I call my current insurance and explain what happened in Aug 2024( though I don't have the police report number anymore) or am I stuck with this for the next 5 years?

    1. Did you provide your police report to the adjuster.  Either they never received it, the damages do not reflect a hit and run or the most likely scenario the carrier coded it wrong.  Ask for a letter of experience and ask lexis nexus to update the record.
