COP26 – a review, with Nandini Sukumar (World Federation of Exchanges), Girish Narula (Urgentem), Barbara Davidson (Carbon Tracker) and Sue Harding (Bailey Network)

Why you should watch: Two people who were there, and two who follow environmental finance for a living…a post-COP review of what was/was not achieved in Glasgow, covering (inter alia) the agreements on deforestation, methane and environmental ratings, plus discussion of GFANZ, ‘loss and damage (aka reparations), and the commitments to review climate targets by end-2022. Also, a big sigh over coal, dissent over ‘transition’ fuels like gas, and a nod in the direction of nuclear and longer-term punts like hydrogen and ocean power.

Nandini Sukumar is CEO of the World Federation of Exchanges, which she joined in 2014 after 14 years at Bloomberg, latterly as correspondent on market structures. The WFE is the global association for exchanges and CCPs. It is (according to its website) ‘home to 45,000 listed companies’.

Girish Narula is CEO of Urgentum, the website of which describes it as ‘the leading independent provider of transparent carbon emission data and climate risk analytics to the finance industry’. He was previously an adviser to the Greater London Mutual, and an MD at West LB.

Barabara Davidson is a senior analyst in climate and accountancy at Carbon Tracker. She was previously a committee member at the Climate Disclosure Standards Board and head of investor engagement at the IFRS Foundation.

Sue Harding is co-founder of the Bailey Network. She was formerly an MD for accounting and governance at Citi, a director at the FRC, and an MD at S&P Credit Ratings. Before that, she spent 14 years at PwC.
