I moved to Europe a few years ago. I live in the Netherlands. Nelnet contacted me saying there's still time before I default, but it's soon. I have been recovering from some other money drainage and now my company is talking about how Sales has hit a slump. Warning signs are everywhere there's about to be a layoff and I might be part of it.
My instinct is to save money in case I need to return to the States (you only have three months to find a new job here). Nelnet doesn't know I moved. I still keep my US bank account which is usually hovering at $100. Advice?

IBR.
Have you been filling out your US taxes? You can sign up for an IDR plan like IBR and with the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (FEIE) you’re likely to have a $0/month payment on any IDR plan unless you have really high income
