I just got my car back from the body shop and they mentioned it was already covered by the insurance company so I did not have to pay anything. It's a couple of days later now and I got a check from the insurance company for the cost of the repairs. Was this a mistake on their end and can I keep the money or am I going to be required to give it back? This was just cosmetic damage so there wouldn't be any injury involved outside of the cost of repairs.

They either issued the payment to both you and the shop and you need to let them know and destroy the check you got or they sent you the funds to pay the shop instead of paying they shop directly. They would just be covering the cost of repairs minus the deductible so no, there are not any funds you should be keeping.
Definitely could have been mistakenly issued to you. Check with your insurance before cashing it.
Error call the insurance company you’ll screw yourself over if you keep it without at least making a call about it
Don’t spend it. There’s a few possibilities. The person who checked you out at the body shop might have been mistaken (or someone else there), and they’ll probably catch their mistake and want to get paid. The carrier will almost certainly catch their mistake if they double-paid and they’ll want it back. There’s always the small chance that this slips through the cracks, but I wouldn’t count on it.
It’s not your money either way, and if you want to get clarity, call your adjuster and ask them what you’re supposed to do with the check they sent you. If they tell you to keep it, feel free.
Did you do an estimate online or somewhere else? A lot of times the initial check comes to you and then all supplements go to the shop. Possible that it got sent to you by mistake.
