Just like the title says. I’m 20 years old and my current credit card is the beginner discover card I got when I was a senior in high school. Now I’m living on my own with my girlfriend and I’m getting nothing out of the card except 2% on gas and groceries and 1% on everything else.
My biggest spending categories are Gas and Supermarkets so I’m looking for a card to capitalize on that. I was looking at, and got approved for, the Blue Cash Preferred card from Amex but I was then told that I wouldn’t want to pay an annual fee and Amex isn’t really all it’s made out to be and that a Visa or Mastercard would be better.
Someone also recommended a Costo Visa card since my girlfriend and I like to get some stuff in bulk from there and they have the 5% back on gas.
I have a 774 credit score and my credit age is almost over 5 years, 100% payment history, and only 4% usage so I have pretty high approval odds for most cards. Any recommendations?

I’d maybe suggest getting the Chase Sapphire Preferred for the signup bonus. Then after the card is over one year old you can product change it into a free Chase Freedom Unlimited.
Heads up getting new credit cards can sometimes increase car insurance premiums even with a high FICO. I learned this the hard way.
Amex Blue Cash Everyday has 3% on Gas, 3% on Grocery, 3% on online retail.
Cap1 Savor has 3% on Dining, 3% on Grocery, 3% on Entertainment.
PayPal Debit can do 5% on all grocery including Costco/Walmart.
Keep your Amex, you can get the sign up bonus, then after the first year, call them to downgrade to the no annual fee version if you don’t think you are getting enough value out the card.
Personally, it’s one of my favorite cards.
