Alright, so. In Texas, driving home from school, was turning on to a ramp that went down when two cars lengths ahead, somebody slams on their brakes. Car in front of me also does this, then I do this because I couldn't swerve to the next lane as cars were driving past (and couldn't swerve to the sode because of a divider and not enough room) and end up hitting the car in front of me. We both pull off to the side with our hazard lights on while the furthermost car driving off. Their SUV had minor scrapes to bumper, while my Mercedes was a bit worse off with a broken-glass inner headlight, the right headlight on the same side as the inner one was cracked, the hood was slightly janked and raised at where the headlight had damage, grill was a little messed up, and license plate a little bent (my car was lower and seemed to focus on the one side since we were turning). The couple was really nice and asked if I was okay, advised me to call my parents and have them call insurance, take pictures of both our cars for those purposes, etc. after I said that nothing like this had ever happened before (baby's first fender bender). Didn't get their names or contact (since I was mini-panicking), but got license plate. They said that they weren't gonna do anything since damages were minor superficial, made sure I was alright one last time, then we went our separate ways.
Now, my dad keeps reassuring me that it's fine since he's just glad I'm safe, and the car and its damage are just things. But besides the fact I'm worrying about my transportation for school (illegal to drive with busted headlight and all), I'm also worried about if that makes the insurance look bad, because when I looked it up, Google said that the person furthest back is at fault, even though I seemed to have enough distance when turning, personally two car lengths ahead was the one who slammed on brakes for no reason, and I couldn't turn off to the side? I've been driving for two years without any accidents of any kind, so clean record. Thoughts? (Possibly something to ease my anxiety?)
