A strong practice I've found is physically writing out your financial goals/budget/ ect is very helpful.

I'll write how much I want to save a month, my goals and what I contributed week to week. I have a digital spread sheet to organize this information too but there's something freeing about rambling on paper. Just going crazy with that pen. I have a habit of breaking down goals into months, weeks, days, and really trying to understand what I am up against.

Putting specific mental focus into your goals is basically the same thing as meditation.

Till Janurary I have to put away 4K$ into my emergency savings to reach my goal of 10K$.

Till Janurary I need to put 2,250$ into my Roth to finish with 7K for the fiscal year.

Completing both goals for Jan 2026 will bring me to ~27K networth out of 100K goal by 2029.

Knowing the specifics gives me confidence to work overtime, and hold myself accountable.

    Writing is important to finances

I’m an advocate of detailing things on a spreadsheet. There are too many platform tools out there to automatically track, tabulate, and organize your accounts. You just develop a specific kind of awareness when you take the time to detail your financial picture yourself.
