Hi,

We are in the process of booking a vacation and we are wondering which one of our Chase cards we should use. We have the United Explorer or Sapphire Preferred cards. This vacation is booked through an independent agent, but it's actually from United Travels and we'll be flying United.

From a quick comparison, CSP has better travel protection. The United Explorer also has travel protection but not as good. For example for trip cancellation, CSP is up to 20k for the whole trip, and United Explorer is only $6,000, which is less than the cost of the whole trip. However United Explorer gives us 2 free check in luggage which will end up being like $160 for the round trip.

Just wondering for those who have both cards, which one do you usually use if you travel on United? and does it matter if you book through United directly or through an agent?

    Thank you

Which Chase card to use to book our upcoming trip: United Explorer or Sapphire Preferred?

    1. Sapphire Preferred has the same 2x travel multiplier that the United Explorer does, so there’s no change in the points earned, but it’s worth an ask to your independent agent if the Explorer free check-in allowance carries over for United Travels bookings.
