Whenever I try to create a bank account online, or do anything requiring the use of my SSN and a credit report, I always get a message telling me that there was an issue. When trying to get credit reports online, Equifax and Experian both work, yet Transunion is unable to confirm my identity. I was able to create a bank account in person recently, but I was unable to unlock all the features due to this issue, and the women who helped me said that someone may have used my SSN for fraud, creating the issue. My mom told me that when I was very young, someone tried "using my SSN for their taxes", and she though the issue was resolved years ago, but I suspect that it may be linked to the issue I'm having now. I've already called Transunion, but they haven't been helpful, so I'm wondering if anyone knows who else I can call or where I can visit to get this situation resolved.

Someone stole my SSN when I was very young, and now I'm unable to use it to open bank accounts. How should I go about fixing this?

    1. When you can’t get your credit report online, there’s an option to mail in information

      Have you done that?

    2. What did Transunion tell you to do? Usually you have to send a copy of your driver’s license and possibly other id to prove who you are and get an account. If there’s no fraudulent accounts showing up on your Equifax and Experian accounts, I’m not sure why you think there’s fraud. I’ve never heard of a bank account that doesn’t let you unlock all the features. You either have a bank account or you don’t. What features are they not letting you use?

    3. You should start wirh the social security administration. They can tell you what has been done with it

    4. You need to ask your parents some very pointed questions about this.

They are the most likely suspects. Sorry.

You can request a new SSN from the SSA, or you may be able to use a different ID number such as a foreign passport number at some banks.

    6. If your parents are aware that someone yoinked your SSN for their taxes, it’s a very high chance that *they improperly used your SSN for taxes* and have been not entirely truthful with you.

You need to sit down with your parents and ask them point blank *what the fuck actually happened*. You’re going to have a hard time getting real answers until you know the truth there. Do not let up until they’re honest with you.

Then, contact the Social Security Administration and see what they can do to to help you.

    7. book an appointment with you local social security office and go and talk to them, do what they say

thats it, anything else is a waste of your time

Can you ask your Mom for more information? Sounds a little fishy if it was just a one time thing when you were young.
