Hello, I am currently in the process of considering grad programs and I feel lost. I have a B.S. in environmental science and have roughly a year of work experience with an energy advocate group as a research fellow and a national non profit as a renewable energy research fellow. My experience is a mix of utility, energy and policy research along with some data analysis such as GIS. I have been considering several programs but am wondering if either are worthwhile. One that is of interest is the Master's in Management of Energy at Tulane which has a base of finance courses and lots of energy based courses, which I feel would prepare me for work as some sort of analyst. There's also an Energy Science and Engineering program at Stanford that I am interested in and have selected three potential advisors due to their work in renewables and climate assessment.
However, I am starting to wonder if it is even necessary to attend any program and if I should just stick with fellowships and contract gigs until landing a full time role. If I were to get into any program, I would resume working and hopefully would avoid taking out an obscene amount of loans. Has anyone ever gotten a master's in a similar field to either and if so, what was your experience and where did you land career path wise and would you say you got a good return on investment?
Thank you
