Technically still a small business “owner” just like most home “owners” really just owe a lifelong debt called a mortgage
Not sure what this gatekeeping is hoping to manage or prove. They still work hard at making an honest living to feed their families
For what it’s worth. My family “owns” the business but we still have a landlord who we pay rent to. So do we REALLY own our small business?

This describes my situation well and I hate it.
I also take the time every time I think about how much I hate it that I’m fortunate because it’s pretty low-stress, close to home and don’t have anyone breathing down my neck.

I, too, have read the E myth.
Also this isn’t even true depending on the lifecycle of the business. You can’t step away from a new business but the question is: how are you building it? Are you building it to be dependent on you, or are you building it with systems and processes to one day ALLOW you to step away?
There’s a difference. The former…yes, you have a job. But it’s not like you get to the latter on day one (generally).

You seem to think that being a business owner means you are retired. No, being a 100% business owner is a 24/7 job. Now, you can be a shareholder, but someone has to run the business.

You’re ignoring the differences between having a boss and being your own boss though….the freedom to control your own destiny is what appeals to most
