I just got my first real job after graduating and am looking for a new credit card to add to my collection. For context:

    • Current cards:
      • Discover IT $1,800 limit, June 2022
      • Capital One Savor One (Good Credit), $3,000 limit, Aug 2023
      • Chase Freedom Unlimited, $4,000, Dec 2024
    • FICO Score: 788
    • Oldest account age: 3 years 3 months
    • Chase 5/24 status: 2/24
    • Income: $90,000
    • Average monthly spend and categories:
      • dining $60
      • groceries: $492
      • gas: $390
      • travel: $0
      • other: $2,027
    • Open to Business Cards: Yes
    • What's the purpose of your next card? Mainly for building credit and building/maintaining relationships with banks.
    • Do you have any cards you've been looking at? I haven’t been focused on any specific cards, but two types of cards I’ve been considering are a Navy Federal card and a Walmart card:
      • Navy Federal – Since I already bank with them, I’d like to build a stronger relationship with the credit union.
      • Walmart – I do most of my shopping there, so it would be convenient to earn rewards where I spend the most.

I’m open to other suggestions since I’m not entirely sure what would be the best fit for someone with my background.

    • Are you OK with category spending or do you want a general spending card? Either is fine.

Other: I usually only travel once a year, so I don’t think a travel card makes sense for me (though having some travel perks would definitely be nice).

    1. Amex BCE. If your groceries are in walmart use walmart pay as that triggers the 3% for “online purchases”

    2. For walmart, get the paypal debit card, wont help building your credit, but it gets 5% back on instore walmart purchases for $1000 in spend a month for the “grocery” catergory. It can also be used for gas.

Then look into the citi custom cash and/or citi double cash for gas and catch all spending. You already have the freedom unlimited and savor, by adding the citi cards, you would be able to easily transition to travel if that’s what you want.
