So, I am a petrochemical final year student and I recently got interest in renewable energy and sustainable energy . Its the future of Oil and Gas but I am really confused what to do in which domain should I have my masters in ? And also energy sector will boom in the future but the current status is the salaries low and I want to earn a descent salary . Oil and gas is good and pays good but it is not stable I can even pursue masters in chemical engineering to make my career vast …

Please help me out with this!

Should I stay in Oil and gas field or swutch to energy sector

    1. It’s hard to predict the future. Deciding your career path based on what might happen in 20 years (which we have no clue about) is not a good idea. You should try to do something that you like and that brings you joy. I would personally never work in the oil and gas sector. But you might want to start with that and try to convert to something else as time goes by, so it’s good to pick a role that could fit in different sectors.

    2. Wind turbine technicians make pretty decent money. If you want something that has skills overlap more with oil and gas you can try geothermal. Chemical engineering also can translate to other extractive industries, and we will still need lots of mining.

    3. Stay in Oil and Gas if you want good pay.

Switching to renewable and sustainability means more travel and relocation and sometimes dealing with non-engineering tasks like paper works.

If you are an engineering nerd go Oil and Gas. If you are like those Wall Street boys go renewable

    4. You can make money in anything… it’s 2025

But we know for sure that Oil and Gas pollutes the Earth

Why would anyone want to be an active participant in that, just to earn money? 😞
