I sell items on eBay from Canada to the US. Recent changes in US customs rules have ended the de minimis exemption, so now American buyers pay more because of new import tariffs.
For example, an item that cost my US buyer $15 a month ago now costs $26 due to these added fees.
I’m wondering: Do these higher prices—caused by new tariffs—get counted as part of US inflation figures? Or are they ignored, since buyers can theoretically avoid these items or buy domestically?
I’m curious how these kinds of cost increases from sellers like me end up in economic statistics on inflation.
Do increased eBay prices from new tariffs show up in inflation numbers?
