Bought my Airwrap in 2019. Over the past few weeks it started acting very weird…auto turning off after 2-3 mins unless it was on cool mode, flashing light and this gross burnt hair smell. I thought it was literally frying my hair so I recently started looking at other options. But before dropping the cash I figured I’d check what’s going on. Let me just say that I’m not technical at all. This whole thing was intimidating because I was worried I’d ruin something permanently. But now that I’ve done it and realised it’s actually easy and takes about 20 minutes, I thought I’d share here.

Firstly, there’s a little filter attachment Dyson tells you to clean monthly!! I had never cleaned it in 5+ years 😅. As soon as I cleaned it the flashing light + shut-offs stopped, but the burnt smell stayed. So I watched a few YouTube videos, and borrowed a Torx T6 screwdriver, took off the two screws on the mesh panel under the filter, opened it up, took out two more screws to get to the charging cable and noticed hair everywhere. Some wrapped around the cord, some literally zapped into the charging port. Wiggled the hair out, used a soft brush and q-tips to clean everything.

It’s been a week and it’s working like new!! Yay! No smell, no random shut-offs. If your Airwrap starts flashing or smelling burnt, try a proper deep clean before you give up or buy a new one.

My Dyson Airwrap smelled like burnt hair and kept shutting off but I FIXED IT!!
