I have full coverage from state farm insurance. 2015 Toyota Corolla. Paid in full about 5 months ago.
The person did some extensive damage.
I feel like if I file a claim, I'll have to pay the $500 deductible that I don't have right now and my insurance premiums will go up.
Is it worth it? I didn't call the police. I was so mad. I took some pics and left.

In Michigan. Someone hit and run my car while I was in the store for 5 minutes. No idea who it was. Should I bother filing a claim?

Might the store have security cameras? Did you ask?
“Extensive damage” is a key. >$5000. I would. That is insurance is for. In Michigan auto insurance is already sky high.
File a police report. Check for any cameras at the parking lot. Claim to insurance with a copy of of police report.
You’ll definitely need to pay your deductible. MI doesn’t have uninsured motorist property damage coverage, so this will be a collision claim. If you can identify the responsible party, it’s covered under their PPI coverage.
If the damage is a lot, it’s worth the claim.
Did you have broadform orcstandard collision?
If you file a claim on a toyota corolla it will be totaled.
Ive totaled 3 of them (technically 4 but that one doesnt show up on insurance records 🤷♀️, I didnt make a claim that time. It was liability only)
Anyway they total pretty easily.
If you don’t have your $500 deductible then your question is moot.
I work at a State Farm, in Michigan! 😅
If you have broadened collision and you’re not at fault, you won’t pay your deductible at all. Standard/limited you will pay. My office insists on broadened to not screw people over, and if they want something else we make sure they know exactly what they’re getting. Since it was a hit and run you can’t really chase that persons insurance. Should be covered with no deductible. A car is considered a total loss when the cost to repair it meets or exceeds its Actual Cash Value (ACV) usually 70–80% of that value.
Did you ask your agent at all yet? Let me know what they said 🙂
Michigan is a no fault state so you go to your own insurance regardless. Depends on your coverage if you have to pay your deductible
If the car was parked and unoccupied when it was hit, could there be a claim as ‘comprehensive’? I was told those claims don’t raise future insurance premiums.
