I am using this free alarm clock app called "Glow Alarm" on my iPhone which lights up the device's screen and flashlight before the alarm sounds.
It saves having to buy one of those super expensive sunrise alarm clocks. It has worked quite well especially in the darker winter months. Just search 'glow alarm' on the iPhone/iPad App Store. It's completely free.
