Did I mess up taking my car off the policy?

My car was totaled out by insurance after major hail damage. Checks have been cut and sent off to the lender and I removed my car from my existing policy. Now it's just basic liability for an 03 ranger. I wasnt sure if I was going to replace the car just yet but life made that decision for me two days later. Im buying a car tomorrow but 1 my insurance hasn't updated the price of my monthly payments yet but my car is off of the app, and 2 how would I go about putting the new car on insurance as now I know I should have just changed the old car to the new one. Will I have a bad overlap on my insurance monthly payment as it's due on the 23rd and auto drafts? Insures through triple AAA if that helps.
