I am being gifted a trip to a fancy all-inclusive beach resort. Some of the resort has a dress code. I will shop from my closet as much as possible but if I do need new things what do you recommend? The trip is February and I’ll be shopping in the fall/winter in a cold weather location. I want to buy as little as possible.

Some things my Google searches recommended I bring:

    Swimsuit

“Nice” shorts (I only own athletic wear)

    “Nice” tops

    Dressy sandals

    Sundress

    Light cotton or linen pants

Nice outfits for evenings, such as maxi dresses, nice pants and tops

Frugal preparation for a beach trip

For everything but a swimsuit, I’d check thrift stores and Poshmark, or if your area has Varagesale – the app (for local sellers) you can often get really cheap “clothing bundles”

    2. Instead of spending money on shorts for casual wear, consider getting golf skirts. They look just like a regular skirt, but they have built-in shorts underneath, and pockets usually! I’ve gotten three from temu and four from Amazon. They come to just above the knee when I’m standing, and I’m only 5’4″.

I love the comfortable stretchy fabric they are made of, does not wrinkle or pill. Except for a couple of casual dresses, that is all I wear now. Anything from a tank top to a graphic t-shirt to a dressier blouse. If you get solid colors, it’s much easier to create outfits, I made the “mistake” of getting floral patterns, so I wear tops that match those colors. it always looks put together.

You can wear them with sporty shoes or flip-flops, or even a kitten heel if you are so inclined.

    3. Small mom and pop thrift stores, you can ask the people working there if they have any summer clothes in the back. Another option is to ask friends if they have summer clothes they’re getting rid of (this generally looks better with women).
