Sorry if it's a silly question-
For context, I live in the state of CA and don't own a car, therefore I don't have auto insurance. I do, however, have a license as of 2023. I drive my mother's car once every blue moon and wanted to know what'd happen or what I should do if I'm ever involved in an accident (at fault or not)? We live together but I'm not an added driver on her policy. I do have her permission to use her car & she has a valid policy and registration. Thanks!
(edited for grammar and additional context)
What happens if you're involved in an accident while driving someone else's car?

Do you live with your mom? If so you MUST be added to her policy. If not, insurance can deny a claim if you get into an accident
Do you live with her? If not you should be covered under permissive use as insurance follows the vehicle not the driver.
Do you live with her? If so, then the insurance would be within their rights to deny the claim and cancel her policy if she didn’t disclose that to them. If you don’t live with her then most likely you would be covered under permissive use. But while most companies afford coverage under permissive use, but not all. A few substandard companies only cover those listed and rated on the policy.
As long as you don’t live with her, you should be covered under permissive use.
Thank you all for your responses! 🙂
