It’s an easy scapegoat for layoffs. Kinda like RTO was.
I can’t believe that the current state of AI is obsoleting this many jobs. There has to be more. Maybe even an over-investment in AI that is resulting in cutbacks to save the bottom line/CEO bonus.
Either way, AI isn’t good enough to be killing this many jobs. Some, yes, but I can’t believe that it is doing away with this many jobs.
Sorry for the repetitive nature of my comment, I haven’t figured out what the minimum length a comment needs to be for my post not to get nuked.

This is purely conjecture, but yes and no. Some companies may be using AI as an excuse to cut labor while promoting the idea to investors that they’re becoming more efficient in the process. Or, using AI to put a positive spin on some budget tightening.
The actual reason for the cuts may be a mix of actually expecting AI to replace workers and regular problems with revenue generation.

Ultimately it’s always going to be the people in charge of the corporations cutting jobs who are at fault. Maybe we should just accept that they’re evil instead of constantly trying to find reasons to justify how evil they are.
