I typically don't drink soft drinks and normally drink water from the tap. Yesterday, I had a hankering for a Doctor Pepper while I wan in the dollar store, casually roamed around till I found the cooler and the culture shock hit, my much desired Doctor Pepper was $2.50 for a 20 ounce bottle.

Admittingly, I haven't brought a 20 ounce drink for at least 5 years or more, but are people really paying $2.50 for a cold 20 ounce bottled drink?

Price of single sodas from a cooler or vending machine!! Dayum …

    1. Oh yeah. I’m seeing fast food restaurants charging like $3.79 for a fountain soda in some places. Glad I kicked the habit. That said my carbonated water habit is getting expensive now too (though hopefully a tad healthier).

    2. I quit buying bottled/canned soda a while ago. I will sometimes hit circle k for a 44 ounce large for a dollar.

    3. I went out to eat this past weekend and the Mexican restaurant was charging $4.59 for a glass of Coca-Cola. I never buy soda but almost fell out of my chair when I saw what they were charging.

    4. You are paying for the convenience from the vending machine. The 2 liter bottles are better value.

    5. I can remember when wallyworld had pop vending machines beside the carts. .50 cents for a can of pop. I try to grab a 32 ounce pop from whichever convenience store is selling for .89 cents

Lol I keep seeing sticker shock posts that remind me that I live in VHCOL area. NYC soared past $2.50/soda YEARS ago.

    7. At Publix the 20 Oz cold sodas are about $2.79. But the 1L on the shelf are like $2.19. Weird.

I see people buy them every day. It’s bonkers.

The one that really gets me is iced tea. Bags of black tea are still pretty cheap and if you make your own it’s less than a dime per glass.

    9. You pay a premium for the convenience. A whole 2 liter costs the same at the store, but that soda in the vending machine is somewhere more convenient than the back aisle of Walmart

    10. Yes they are. Probably closer to $3 for a 20oz where I live as a 12oz can at the gas stations are over $2.

Went to a 7/11 yesterday and saw they were charging $2.99 for regular sized candy bars. Junk like that is getting so expensive that its not worth buying.

a diet coke was 3 dollars at one of the chicago greyhound stations, I laughed and refilled an old bottle with tap water..It was not good tap water but 3 dollars for a 20 ounce is insane.

    12. 20oz have the highest profit margin, that is exactly why merchandisers hit the coolers first and face everything else.

    13. Its more than $2.50 at Walmart here, its about $2.88 or closer to $3 when you factor in tax and deposit.

Places like dollar general and 7-11 actually have good deals on these, they have like 2 for $4 which is ironically cheaper than the grocery store or Walmart.

I’ve never bought a 20oz in my life because they are so expensive despite the few times I have found an offer for them that lets me get them for free in which case I was shocked at the nearly $3 price point. If I am that thirsty in a store I take a sip out of the water fountain on my way out.

$3.29 at the cooler near the checkout at Target where I live for the 20 oz sodas. The 2 liter bottles of Coke Zero in my cart were $2.89 each— and buy two get one free this week

Normally I carry one out 2 under the seat of my car so I can just grab one if needed. In the Winter I carry one with me when I leave the house even if I won’t use it I’ll have it just so I can avoid the cost.

    16. Those vending machines ain’t gonna fix themselves from all the abuse they take…they need a damn support group 😆

    17. Small time gas stations and convenience stores usually have cans for 1-150. It tastes better from a can too
