So im literally jn the store, wanted malt o meal, remwbered it from childhood. Say the price for a box 7.79 for 32oz and it seemed a bit high. Cream of weat was right next to it at 8.29 for 32oz a box (on sale for 8.09). There is also one one option of each, no other brands. For Oatmeal though i will probably go with the store brand (Kroger 4.79 for 42oz) seems like a much better deal but ive been eating Oatmeal so often I juat want a bit of verity but not for twice the price)
Really im just wandering is there a cheaper brand out their?, why is here no store brand, and if nutritionally its worth it to get maltomeal or cream of wheat?

malt o meal memory unlocked.
That’s SO MUCH money thoughðŸ˜
I have seen generic cream of wheat aka farina cereal in stores before. Also pricey but Bob’s Red Mill has whole grain versions for more nutrition, especially fiber. Oatmeal is whole grain.Â
The problem might be the supermarket you are in. Wally world has malt o meal for $5 at wally world. Also check for coupons. And oatmeal can have pretty much anything added to it for variety. Try peanut butter and bacon is you want to be a bit wacky or brown sugar and banana is phenomenal.
I loved chocolate malt o meal.
The prices have gotten high though.
I buy oats at Sam’s and make a big batch of crock pot oatmeal every once in a while.
Look for steel cut oats. They take longer to cook…but are soooo yummy. Much creamier than standard oatmeal.
You only need 3 tsp of cream of wheat for a serving. The box I have is 24 servings, so that’s really not a bad price.
Instead of comparing prices, figure out how many servings per box and how much per serving. That’s a better indicator. Personally my favorite is Malt o Meal. I even make Malt o Meal pancakes, substituting part of the pancake mix with dry Malt o Meal.
I think it’s your supermarket because I have just recently purchased Cocoa wheats, Malt o Meal, and cream of wheat because I was running out. $4.48, $4.98 and $4.68, respectively. I bought them all at Walmart. Kroger is super expensive if you can find somewhere else to shop do that.
I buy the bulk wheat cereal in bins at Winco and call it Malt o’Meal (think it’s actually Bob’s Red Mill?). Local stores definitely over price Malt o’Meal.
That seems incredibly expensive!
Wheaten is more grainy. I love it but hard to find.
I love steel cut oats. I cook with cinnamon, small chunks of apple and pecans. When cooked I add butter, brown sugar and milk.
If you need a break from oatmeal, but still want a cheap hot cereal, polenta (corn meal) takes a little longer, but is hands off to prepare if you have an instant pot, or mostly hands off in a microwave. (stirring on the stove is tedious.)
It’s not a great long term swap because it doesn’t have as much fiber and protein, but I like it from time to time.
For variety with oatmeal just change the toppings. Alternate between sweet and savory. There are so many ways to customize oatmeal that you shouldn’t get bored. Instead of eating it as oatmeal you can also opt to use the oats to create muffins or bars for a change.
I buy bulk farina from Augason Farms Creamy Wheat Cereal 3 lbs 15 oz on Ebay. Free shipping and the last price was US $7.28.
