I have been eating a lot of chicken since I moved away from home because its cheap. However you can only eat chicken for so long before you become sick of it.
However its hard to find cheap cuts of beef. Specifically a lot of the recipes require chuck roast and top sirloin. But a 1.5 pound chuck roast cost about 30 bucks and I struggle to find any steak under 15 dollars.
I've heard about people who shop at co-ops but there is nothing like that anywhere close to here. All we have is a walmart, safeway, and grocery outlet and one butcher.
Does anybody know what i can do to find cheap beef.
How to find cheap cuts of steak or beef roasts?

Safeway often has loss leader sales on beef once a month or so. Including this week. London broil at 4.99.
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen $20/lb chuck roast.
That aside you can check the markdown section of your local grocery store, buy whole primals and cut your own, or buy a sousvide and learn to use it to tenderize tougher cuts of meat.
I’ve mostly given up eating beef because it’s simply not cheap any more. I haven’t eaten a steak in a couple of years at this point. Only beef I get is ground beef, and only when it’s on sale. I’m eating a lot more chicken and pork lately.
Safeway has neat sales frequently but you have to use the app and download the digital coupons. Shopping only sales takes commitment and time to build your pantry but it pays off. I never buy meat at Walmart or Costco, only at my regular stores that have big sales to draw you in. Safeway had petite boneless family pack sirloin steaks for today for $5 a pound and boneless skinless chicken for .88 a pound. Last week they had tri tip, bottom round, top round and chuck roasts for $6 a pound with a digital coupon.
Download the apps for every store you have access to and check them each week when the sales come out on Wed. Plan your shopping around the sales.
There aren’t any right now since beef prices are so high. Pork is still pretty inexpensive,I love a pork roast.
I’m in Chicago, chuck goes on sale for 3.99 to 5.99lb (depending on time of year And such) through Jewel which is owned by albertsons (Safeway).
That’s probably the best deal? Aldi or if you have any flashflood locations near you, I’ve gotten clearances ground beef that way.
My local grocery stores have Beef Shoulder Roasts on sale for $4.99 – $5.49 per lb, so we snagged a couple for the freezer. We do the same when decent steaks go on sale. You just have to plan ahead and stock up when you can.
Choice check at Costco is ~$8/lb. If you want cheaper beef, there’s brisket. If you have a business Costco, there’s also assorted mix beef pack or beef cheeks for under $5/lb for select grade. You could prob find something similar at restaurant supply store.
Consider buying a whole chuck roll from Costco. Typically under 6$/pound. High up front cost, but should last you a while. Recommend a vacuum sealer if you dont have one yet.
