But also feels a bit strange. I just went to an Asian market. In the past I would load up on snacks, frozen foods, ramen, etc. I used to have grocery bills of $100+ per trip regularly… Now I look at things and just think "hmm I wonder how I can make this myself. It would probably taste better." I only bought two things, an ingredient I can't get at my local grocery and an exotic fruit. Started daydreaming about eating my usual home cooked meals on the way home. They're way cheaper to make AND tastier, which I think rewired my brain to not accept less. Learning to cook really is a 100% essential frugal skillset!
Ever since I learned to cook, I only want to buy ingredients… It's kind of nice

Agreed! Once you learn to cook well, it’s hard to justify buying lesser quality premade items, or even dining out!
That is awesome, congratulations!
I don’t know how people survive not knowing how to cook. It must be so hard and expensive to get tasty and healthy food. It’s really weird how you would be able to make it through life without cooking? I don’t get it
Samesies! I cook almost entirely at home and nerely refuse to buy premade items.
Yes! I love that feeling.
> an ingredient I can’t get at my local grocery
My local grocery store is Safeway, so I buy as little as possible there lmao.
There are 14 Safeways with their $1.49/lbs potatoes closer to me than the Indian market where I pay $0.25/lbs.
Yeah, I took a couple cooking lessons from Groupon years ago and I started buying fresh ingredients and cooking better meals.
I don’t understand adults who don’t want to continue learning and honing their skills.
That is how people find passion on things. The simplicity of things.
I buy a TV dinner or some prepared food for junk food Sunday about 50% of the time but find lately I have enough food all prepared on my own in my freezer to scratch that itch lately.
Cookies and stuff totally not buying. Especially around the holidays. I’ve been baking and freezing cookies that can be frozen to prepare to be decorated this month. But it’s nice to just open the cabinet or freezer and fridge and be able to put together a hot meal whenever I want it.
As someone who cooks everything from scratch, I love seeing others joining this way of eating. Congrats!
