I've had some bad luck with coats lately. I try to buy my clothes at Goodwill, but I keep either missing small damage that turns into large damage or the coats are just too high maintenance for me to actually take care of them. I'd really like to get a new coat this year that lasts and is super warm but isn't super expensive. My budget is super tight right now, so I don't have room to buy a coat and not have it work out.

Edit: I guess it's important to say that I live in a place with cold winters (Nebraska) where temperatures stay below freezing for most of the winter, so I am looking for a warm coat for this weather. Right now I have a coat that is lined and that's super warm. I hate the cold, but I'm not outside much in the winter.

Are Costco's winter coats warm and durable?

    1. What are your coat goals? Waterproof? Insulated? What length? What climate are you planning for?

Costco does have a great return policy if you choose something and it doesn’t work out for whatever reason.

I bought a 32 Degrees winter jacket from Costco for $20 that is very warm. I wish it was a little longer (it stops above my hips) but otherwise it’s great. I can’t speak to durability as I just bought it in late October.

    4. I think the Costco down jackets are great but more for the Texas climate I live in. I don’t think it would keep you warm in a cold climate. They may have warmer ones at your Costco, though.

Happy with mine- it does everything it’s supposed to do.

It’s the one that looks like a weatherman for $30-ish

    6. My 32 degrees puffer coat from Costco is great until it gets below 30F (~0C). Then I’m chilly.

Check Lands End sales, clearance, last chance, left on the shelf, etc. You can often get an older model online in an unpopular color for cheap with all of their coupon codes and such.

    7. Canadian here. I have bought coats at Costco a few times. Some were shells to wear in summer. Some were lined and suitable for spring and fall and some were suitable for our winter. Your individual requirements are important. If you travel on public transit or walk outside a lot in harsh weather and snow, then consider a coat with a hood, long enough to cover you butt.

    8. Costco clothing is usually high quality and appropriate for where the Costco is located. They have multiple fleece lined pants at my Costco (co), I doubt they have that at a Costco in fl.

I have an Eddie Bauer 650 down filled puffer jacket that I have worn for half a dozen Texas winters. It’s fine for that – but winter can be quite different from my area.

Costco features a lot of 32 Degrees jackets and coats this time of year. We have versions of these for my wife and daughters. They have worn them for several years. Again, warm enough for Texas winters.

It’s great for Alabama. I got my family all new coats last year and they’re super warm and durable!

    11. OP, your replies aren’t helping the people who are trying to help you. Let me try to give you a list of questions that will help folks guide you to what you need.

      * How cold does it get in the winter where you are?
      * How wet/snowy/rainy does it get in the winter where you are?
      * Are you allergic to anything such as down/feathers?
      * Do you want a coat that has the length to go over your hips? Over your thighs?
      * How much do you want to spend?

Dry cleaning a good coat is almost inevitable – what is your objection to that? You should only have to dry clean it once a year (depending on the coat), so the cost of the cleaning shouldn’t be out of control.

    12. I have three jackets from Costco. 2 are fantastic. The third one had issues with a rip on the elbow, but I easily was able to sow it up.

In general, yes! They often have name brand clothes at a good price. Quality is usually very good at Costco.
