When does money anxiety stop? I always feel on edge. It’s bad enough family and wife notice it hurts me to spend.
Anyone else similar?
Is this due to growing up with overspenders, working in sales, or something else?
Also hate my job a little, walking into business selling a product cold is difficult and stressful
Sometimes I do the math and say to myself “we could cut lifestyle a little and live for 168 months (about 14 years) before going broke” and that helps a little
Just wondering if anyone can relate? I know we are doing well and should be grateful, sorry if I sound braggy, ungrateful, etc.
kinda ranting here, thanks for reading.
In the back of my head a feel once we reach 2M (Hopefully before 40) we will pretty much be good to go and can never worry about money again with current lifestyle
We really don’t make crazy money and side hustle a lot (babysitting, dogsitting, selling random stuff)
background on personal situation: 28, married, 10k a month net together, spend 2.5k, 337k NW, one car paid off, no debt or house (rent apartment)
When does money anxiety stop? Feel I’m always worried (28M married)

If you are still having this anxiety despite being well off and making a good living, it might be useful to go through therapy.
I don’t think it ever does, lol. at least not for the 99%.

You could be the next Musk
If ur having anxiety, ya maybe best to talk woth a therapist. Ir a financial planners or retirement planner..
The katter may give u confirmation u are on the right track. Or maybe have some suggestions on how to better your track.
.but if ur having steady anxiety, might be some underlying perspectives you have that are worth working through
I’m old. Still anxious about money. Grew up lower income with a spendthrift parent. Maybe that’s why?
For me it was once I started seeing a million in my 401k.
But at the same time my income started to climb as well. So I kept the pedal to the metal for a Little bit. Now that it’s over 2 million we’ve started splurging more with travel etc.
I got about 15 years on you. Without some kind of intervention the feeling doesn’t go away on its own. No amount of money (outside of complete and total financial independence) will change it.
So the two options are… become independently wealthy or work to change your mindset. Do both and it’s life changing!
sorry but it never goes away, prices of everything always go up. you’ll always worry about having enough.
Are you familiar with the 4% rule as a guideline for how much is enough to retire? By that guideline, you have enough when you have 25x your annual spend (in invested liquid assets). There is some debate about this, but it’s a good place to start. Related you could look at the FIRE community (financial independence retire early). Having a goal in mind and a plan to work toward it might help general anxiety about spending money? I suppose it could make it worse too? If you are naturally uncomfortable spending, you already have an advantage over many!
This post is kind of baffling to read; I’m not sure this anxiety is rational at all. I’d literally feel like I won the damn lottery in your position. Go check out how poorly people are doing on r/financialadvice or r/poverty.
I think for me, I started worrying a bit less once I had over 1.5 years of living expenses in a HYSA.
