just my partners birthday is coming up, we’re inviting our friends over to hang out, we’re currently broke/car-less so everything is going towards that

my partner hates when everyone gets together and we don’t have at least one thing decided to do (because then even not on their birthday they kinda get forced to decide), and if we /only/ have a movie as a planned activity it feels like everyone just wants to go home afterwards, but they don’t do that when they plan to play a fighting game together (not been everyone’s mood im a while though)

so like we could try to watch the new Frankenstein but like what before or after? or like also just if it’s just not a movie day what do we do?

we’ve always been able to go out for their birthday before and i just don’t want them to feel less special because we’re poor now

free/cheap birthday plans for my partner and our friends

    1. play a game maybe? you could either do card games or if you have a library nearby they might have games you could rent. or maybe you could play a sport if you have outdoor space available? or do a potluck/picnic

Maybe do volunteer work? And then a scavenger hunt! Dunno, the answer depends so much on where you live. Picnic?

    3. Look on local event pages for free/cheap events! Even small towns often have stuff like street festivals, student plays, etc, that don’t cost unless you want to buy something from a vendor. Maybe you could have a house party potluck and have everyone bring a snack, cake, drinks, so forth, so you don’t have to spend lots of money on supplies.

board games (if you don’t have any they can be borrowed and some games you can do with online help like taboo or pictionary)+ a nice dinner at home, even maybe music and a movie. cheap and nice. you can also plan that during the day if it is a weekend.

going to a park or hiking or ice skating together than have a dinner or picnic somewhere cheap some places even give you a free birthday cake if it’s the day of. honestly fun and a kebab is ok with me as a celebration.

    5. Check if your library has multiplayer games for your video game system, or extra movies if you have a dvd player. They may also have board games/ Cards against Humanity or something.

How creative do you feel? Could maybe create a trivia type game around your partner’s life and interests/ in-jokes, etc. Have some type of dinky prize for the winner, even if it’s a gold construction paper star taped on lol.

Make a treat of some kind, too. If not a birthday cake, maybe brownies or cookies.

    6. Make it a themed potluck. Every one bring a dish or a drink around a theme. Choose some silly ‘minute to win it’ type games and enjoy friendship. Make a funfetti cake and just have fun!

In the USA, many public libraries offer a culture card that gives you & a certain number of guests free admission to public attractions & some concerts. Check your library’s website. Libraries also may have games, movies & music that you can borrow for free with your library card.

    8. My favorite affordable party game is No Thanks! my friends also like The Mind. Telestrations and Code Names are also possible options.
