I was developing a solution for a big problem in the construction industry. I contacted a few Project Managers and companies and their answer was shocking. They were very harsh to us.

Saying we had no idea what we’re doing, that they can’t take any more “AI bullshit” and their 3000 different forms of trying to sell solutions that don’t work and tech cannot solve that specific problem, and they’re done with tech founders trying to force solutions in a industry they have no ideia or experience to begin with.

And the thing is.. they’re right. I did a good research and found this problem validating with a lot of other studies and research and thought to myself I had figure out the big pain and how to solve it. I was totally wrong, because the way I interpreted the problem was completely wrong and in fact a tech solution won’t solve it.

And the thing is I was not even trying to sell anything or asking them to do anything. I was just asking questions to validade if the problem was real, and in fact was real but they understood right away I was “doing research” to come up with a tech solution and they were very upset, saying that since 2023 a lot of these “research purposes” are coming from tech founders and they are trying to solve problems they have no understanding about and can’t take it anymore.

This was really eye opening and I’m directioning my efforts to another industry and will try to validate if the next problem really is what the research / google / other sources are saying because when you talk with real people you understand that reality is very different from what you research or hear about.

Harsh reality from the industry, do not trust your own research

Desk research can make a problem look very real but the moment you talk to people living it every day, the context changes fast. I respect that you didn’t double down or get defensive and instead took it as a signal. Talking to real operators early is brutal sometime, but it saves you years of building the wrong thing. This kind of feedback stings but it’s also clarity.
