We tried to login to our student loan and Nelnet accounts, several attempts, no luck. This is maddening, we’ve not made a payment for years now. Will we have to repay these loans with interest? Crazy!

[studentaid.gov](http://studentaid.gov) is often down on weekends, especially Sundays.

Did you think you weren’t ever going to have to repay them?

Why is it crazy that you have to repay a loan with interest? Isn’t that how loans work?
The SAVE lawsuit and injunction started all the way back in February. No one has been able to make payments on SAVE since then. Now SAVE is officially ending, interest has restarted, and borrowers will have to start paying them under a different plan. I don’t see the “crazy” part.
Yes, you will have to pay back your loans with interest, which you agreed to do when you took them out.
They are not retroactively adding interest from when interest was not accruing while SAVE users were in forbearance, if that is what you meant.
The crazy part is that you have a debt that you chose not to keep track of for years. Even if it’s in forbearance, you are responsible for keeping track of it. It’s possible the loan was transferred to another servicer and you no longer have an account with the first one. You need to start with studentaid.gov to find out where it’s at and its status. Then access the current servicer and make plans to pay it.
