When I signed up for my insurance I had an HSA and a limited FSA. I guess I did my research wrong because when I got the FSA I was under the impression it was more flexible than the HSA, hence the name. Now I am trying to use it to reimburse my wife for an ER debt and am learning its Vision and Dental only. Don't judge me I know I'm dumb. Since I was unaware of this, earlier in the year I paid for a dental surgery with my HSA card. I am switching insurance at the end of the year and am losing ~2,600 in FSA if I cannot use it. Is there any way for me to undo the HSA payment and pay for it with the FSA instead? I assume the answer is no but I have to at least do my due diligence to see if its possible.

Depending on the plan, you may be able to submit a ‘Reimburse myself’ request, where you get the money instead of having the money go directly to the provider. Then you can put the money back in the HSA plan as a mistaken distribution.
Go ahead and ask your FSA for reimbursement.
Ask your HSA for how to process a *Return of Mistaken Distribution*.

First off, I have no idea what you’re talking about. I didnt even realize you could have an FSA and an HSA at the same time.
Contact the company that’s managing it. You might be able to pay the HSA back for an inappropriate expense and then put in for reimbursement for the FSA. There should be some after the year ends timeframe to submit claims for the prior year.
There’s also a question of timeframe for the debt. If services for it were rendered in another year, idk if you can pay it off with this years money. Additionally, idk if you can pay for her debt unless you were providing her health insurance at the time.
There’s a lot of stuff going on here that’s really specific to your scenario and you need to talk to someone who knows all the details of your plan and situation.
Good luck!
