Hello,
I recently got fired from my job over lies my supervisor told which are easily disproven by contracts and emails. Yes, I’ve consulted a lawyer and they let me know I have a great case for hostile work environment.
During this period I’ve been reflecting and healing. On what I want and what I am no longer willing to do for someone else. I’ve always wanted my own business. The plan was to work longer and then start a business. However after this experience I refuse to place myself in an abusive environment. I understand not all workplaces are going to be like my last. But I want to work hard for my own dreams.
My partner and I have always discussed that after having kids that I would take a year off to fully pursue it. Now that I’m not working we figured why not take the year now to fully pursue develop the business that I can be proud of. Now I have had a business before but had to dissolve it for me previous job (the that fired me).
Now with the experience that I’ve gained I think, what the heck let’s try it! I’m prepared for the hard work.
My question to you all are would be me some major milestones that shows success? What is something you wish you could tell yourself when you started? Thank you!
What are some major milestones?!?

That wrongful termination lawsuit money could be some solid startup capital if your lawyer’s right about the case
Also for milestones – first paying customer is huge, then hitting your first $1k month, and honestly just surviving year one without going back to a “real job” is a milestone most people don’t hit
Accountability
I’m not sure what you mean by milestones, but getting laid off 3 times was the push I needed to decide to work for myself. It’s now been 15 years being self-employed and I’m retiring this Spring. Best of luck with your business!
It depends a lot on the business. Amazon was famous for recording little profit or losses for years and years because they kept reinvesting in themselves.
Pick a direction, make a plan, use your best judgement, and go.
Not making the same mistakes from year 1 to year 2. Tightening up processes. Being taken advantage of by clients and not having clear boundaries due to the fact that you dont want to lose your first client(s)
