I haven't owned a car in about 10 years. I did own a car for a while and had insurance at that time, but canceled car insurance when I sold the car. I have never driven uninsured.
I've been thinking of buying a car, but I know my insurance rates would likely be very high because I have no recent history of being insured. The car isn't an immediate need and I could wait a while before purchasing.
Would there be any benefit to me in buying non-owners insurance for maybe 6 months to a year in the hope that would give me a lower insurance rate when it comes time to buy a car? Or is it not worthwhile to do this and I should just plan to get insurance when I'm buying the car?
Thanks for any insight on this.
Potential new car owner, worth it to pay for non-owners insurance before buying?

I would have to assume the cost of the operator policy would be much more than the discount for having continuous insurance. Thats just an assumption though
Insurance is on the vehicle, and the people that operate the vehicle. No vehicle, no insurance. Of course, in the real world, you can buy insurance for anything, for a price. Shop around although I don’t think you will have much luck for anything at a good price.
Recently, rates for non owners car insurance I’ve quoted have been coming back ridiculously high — and this has been with several different carriers. Get a quote first. It will help you determine if it’s worth it.
