I found some 15-year-old hard drives… I used to mine BTC back then. What happens if there's something on them?

What do I need to do next?

    I have absolutely no idea…

    1. Lmao i hope those hdd’s still work. they have a lifespan you know. Maybe make sure next time you run something in raidz2 so it has a backup and some drives can fail.

    2. Search the drive for a file named wallet.dat. That file contains the keys to your Bitcoin. If you find it, keep it safe; you will need to import it into Bitcoin wallet software to access the funds

    3. You had the knowledge to setup and maintain a miner but don’t know what to do with them? Smells like spam.

    4. **Absolutely do not answer any DMs**

Plug them in to an air gapped computer (no Bluetooth /Wi-fi) watch some YouTube video tutorials if you don’t know what you’re doing.. I wish you the best of luck.

Edit: Jesus christ, it’s been 12 minutes and **I** have gotten 5 message requests so far from obvious scammers.. Be careful my dude and burn your account /username!

    5. Step one: don’t plug them into your main computer 😅
If there’s anything there, it’s most likely an old wallet.dat. Handle it carefully, make backups first, and assume the drives could fail at any moment. Could be nothing… or a very interesting weekend.

    6. Get a big hdd and image the entire drive off these as a first step. Copy at a simple level not like in Windows. Get a Linux distro up and do a robust copy. Once done, you can search at your leisure, even for deleted files. You don’t want to be messing with it and that’s it’s last hour.

Plug them in, find the wallets, get boatload of money, go batshit crazy, lose everything then come back and tell us about it

    8. This is a shit post for engagement. Anyone that mined BTC back in the day would not ask that question.

First thing you do is boot up Darins boot and nuke from a USB drive on the computer these HDDs are attached to and then you hit enter and it will recover your bitcoins automatically after 7 passes and 24 hours

    10. Don’t answer dm’s

Before you try to mess with anything on those drives, make one copy on new/current hardware, make a second copy and only mess with that 2nd copy as far as trying to access it or anything of the sorts.
