Context:

Good morning. I live in Maryland and am fully insured by Progressive. On the way back from Florida I was rear-ended by a South Carolina driver also insured by Progressive.

The long and short of it is, her car was impaled by our cargo hitch rack (good bye radiator and A/C condenser). No immediately obvious damage to our vehicle but the cargo rack and cooler with about $80 in groceries were a total loss left for the tow company to dispose.

South Carolina requires a police report with $1,000 or more in property damage occurs and they require me to have insurance submit a Form FR-10 or they suspend my license. So, my insurance is already involved and there's no benefit to trying to avoid a claim at this point.

    Question:

Is there any material impact to the at-fault driver's insurance from making an estimated $400 claim?

We are not vindictive and other than wanting someone to check out our hitch receiver/frame attachments we aren't hard pressed to claim the $100 cooler, $80 in groceries, and $80-100 cargo rack. Unless there's a repair to the receiver/frame our claim is likely $120 for the hour of labor for inspection and $300 in stuff.
